About a month back, when I landed in Billund a.k.a the home of the Brick, one of the most anticipated visits in between the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® conference was to the wonder that is LEGO® House. One can get wonderstruck at the complexity of builds that are possible with the LEGO® bricks seeing dinosaurs and landscapes and cities being built giving one's imagination wild possibilities. However, there is also something beautiful about the simplicity and universality of the happens when one gets their hands on the bricks.

I have never had to speak anything to anyone who got to a table with the LEGO® bricks in any space, from a college to a corporate meeting room. Everyone just starts playing and building spontaneously, even if they have never played with the bricks before in their lives. I've heard during my training with Masao Ishihara that one of the simplest models to build for anyone is a tower. If you have been to any LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshops, you would know that one of the first activities you do is to build a tower.

Last week I was visiting an old friend in France. Since has a daughter who is just over two years old who understands mostly Polish and French. After running out of ways to play with her, I decided to take out some of the LEGO® bricks from my bag and gifted her some to play with. And guess what...she straight away built a tower! Not just that....she kept a fruit from the table on top of this tower, took a story book she was reading other day from her book shelf, and asked her mother to translate to me what she wanted to say. She narrated to me the story of one incident in that story book when a bear falls off a tower. And said that is what she has built with those six bricks. And then she went on to dismantle the tower and build other things till her mom took her to bed. 😊 I'm left with how much play is part of our being!
